Two long-standing Woodbridge traditions brighten the winter holiday season

Winter seasonal happenings in the town center offer a sense of welcome and belonging to everyone who calls Woodbridge home. These simple, enduring traditions invite neighbors to come together and share in the community spirit of the winter holidays, much as they have been observed for generations in small New England towns. And this week, two familiar gatherings invite neighbors to join in.

Santa visits the Woodbridge Firehouse

The Woodbridge Volunteer Fire Department will welcome Santa and Mrs. Claus to the firehouse on Saturday, December 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Families are invited to stop by 100 Center Road for photos, holiday cheer, and a chance to support the Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital Toy Closet.

Visitors are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys for donation. Kids may also send letters to Santa@woodbridgefire.com. All are welcome — no reservations required.

Troop 63 tree sale continues

Across from the firehouse on Center Road, Scouting America Troop 63 is once again selling fresh-cut Christmas trees and seasonal greenery in the town center. The long-running sale — a local tradition for more than 60 years — features balsam trees ranging roughly from 5 to 13 feet, along with wreaths, kissing balls, and other holiday decorations.

The tree lot opened Friday, November 28 and will remain open through Christmas Eve, while supplies last, on the following schedule:

  • Wednesdays–Fridays: 4:00–8:00 p.m.
  • Saturdays & Sundays: 9:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
  • Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

Free local delivery is available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Troop 63, founded in 1963, welcomes youth ages 10–18 from Woodbridge, Bethany, and surrounding towns. The troop meets Monday evenings at Our Lady of the Assumption Church (1700 Litchfield Turnpike) and at Camp Whiting when weather allows.
