This Week in Woodbridge

This Week in Woodbridge

In the waning weeks of the year, unexpected twists sometimes find their way into the schedule, and important conversations end up deferred as the calendar runs out. The regular Board of Finance meeting for December 18 was cancelled, and a meeting of the Board of Selectmen-elect that had been expected before year’s end will instead take place early in the new year. So for now, some important decisions remain on hold.

That pause follows a brief but tangible disruption at Town Hall itself. After a burst pipe in the sprinkler system temporarily closed the building and caused water damage affecting electrical and fire alarm systems, Town Hall has fully reopened — just in time to note regularly scheduled holiday closings of Town offices. They will be closed on December 25 and again on January 1.

And as a helpful reminder, the Woodbridge Transfer Station will close at noon on Wednesday, December 24 (Christmas Eve) and will be closed all day on Thursday, December 25 (Christmas Day). The facility will reopen with regular hours on Friday, December 26, and will then be closed again on Thursday, January 1 (New Year’s Day). Regular hours are Tuesday through Saturday (8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) see details at the town website.

Looking ahead to early January, residents may also want to plan around a few key dates. The Town Plan and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on Monday, January 5, at 6:30 p.m. in the Senior Café of the Center Building, 4 Meetinghouse Lane. The hearing will consider proposed amendments to the Town’s Zoning Regulations, with the proposal seeking to revert the language to the version in effect as of November 2024 (see details in the published Public Hearing notice).

Newly elected officials will be sworn in on Monday, January 5, at 3:30 p.m. in the Woodbridge Center Café, followed by a special Board of Selectmen meeting, the first of the new term, on Tuesday, January 6, at 5:00 p.m. in the Central Meeting room at Town Hall. These two dates will formally mark the transition from one chapter to the next — and the opportunity to regain momentum.
