Ballot Lottery Results for the November 2025 Municipal Election
Order of candidates now set for Woodbridge voters
The order of candidates on this fall’s municipal ballot is now official. Following Connecticut law, the Woodbridge Registrars of Voters conducted the ballot lottery on August 14, 2025, to determine placement for endorsed candidates of each party.
By state statute, the party whose candidate for governor received the most votes in the last election appears first on the ballot. This year, that means the Democratic Party line will appear above the Republican Party line.
This year’s local election takes place on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, with early voting running from October 20 through November 2 at the Woodbridge Town Library Meeting Room.

Does ballot order matter?
Research indicates that being listed first on the ballot can influence voter behavior. A widely cited source is work by the MIT Election Data and Science Lab, which has studied Ballot Order Effects. Summarizing findings from multiple studies, this research shows that candidates listed first can gain a measurable advantage, a “primacy effect” that is especially strong in down-ballot races where voters may know less about the candidates.
Connecticut’s system of assigning the top ballot line to the sitting governor’s party, combined with a lottery to determine candidate order within each party, is designed to provide fairness and transparency in how those positions are set.
